2nd gold for India at Cannes Lions


While last night was great for India with the first Gold metal picked in the Media category, Wednesday had some more goodies in store. India won its second gold today – in the design category - for the work done by Delhi based creative hotshop Out of the Box for Mother's Pride brand. The Press, Design and Cyber Lions were announced in the imposing multi-storied Palais Des Festivals , and it did throw up some surprise for many. China for instance won its first grand prix in the press category . The Indian tally went up to a total of 19 metals aggregate with today's picking of 2 silver and 2 bronze in Press category, and 1 gold , 2 silvers and 1 bronze metals in design. There were no wins in the cyber Lions category for India.
For the Press Lions, there were 5415 entries from 74 categories , an increase of 12% over last year. A total of 99 metals were announced, and the grand prix was won by JWT Shanghai for the Heaven and Hell campaign done for Samsonite in China. The jury president Tony Granger , head of print jury and global chief creative office – Y&R , said that the jury was almost unanimous on the grand prix winning entry as being the leader of the pack. "The merging of print and digital is just about beginning to happen as depicted in some of the winning campaigns but it has not taken off effectively yet." O&M opened its account with a silver metal for Perfetti's Mentos Sour Marbels while McCann Worldgroup won a silver metal for Onida. Grey worldwide India picked a bronze for the work done on P&G's Downy while Mudra Communications continued its spree with one more bronze for Union Bank of India – Home Loans.
The design category had a total of 1774 entries from 60 countries, an increase of 37% over the last year. The entries were adjudged on the basis of four criterion of creativity , originality, execution and level of consumer engagement . The grand prix Design Lion was awarded to Chicago based Digital Kitchen for the work done in creating an entirely new experience for The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, as announced by Luciano Deos, Jury president and also president of Latin American design firm, GAD' Design.
For the Indian entries - 139 in all – the good news was in the form of one Gold metal for Out of the Box, two silvers – one each for TBWA/India who made a calendar for the travel brand Yatra Online and Mudra Communications for the work done on Loving Hands Ministry – and one bronze for Mudra's work done for RI Ayurveda Research Labs.
